Developing a disability policy to comply with the law

I can help you understand the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act and develop policies which not only ensure you comply with the law, but more importantly fit with your current business model. I'll spend time getting to know your business and help you understand where disabled customers may have difficulties accessing your services. I'll work with you to draw up policies and procedures which avoid breaching the law, and which provide a fair service for your disabled customers.

My work won't stop there. I'll work with you, if required, to develop an implementation plan for the policies, including a simple handbook for managers and frontline staff. Where necessary I will provide contact details for quality trainers for your staff, and accredited access auditors for your buildings.

In doing this work I will be drawing on my seven years' experience as Wales Director of the Disability Rights Commission. I have been developing and leading programmes to get information to organisations to help them comply with the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act. This involves not only understanding the DDA and its requirements, but, critically, understanding the priorities of the public and private sectors.

I've had lead responsibility on transport issues for the DRC across Great Britain and have developed a Code of Practice to help interpret the law, and written six detailed guides for individual modes of transport which set out practical policies for complying with the law and meeting the needs of disabled people.
