Evaluating your organisation

I can help you to evaluate the impact of a service, initiative or project on its target audience. I can do this either by helping you to agree clear measurable objectives for the service from its early days and establishing ways in which you can measure progress yourselves, or by providing an independent assessment of your work.

In doing this I can draw on experience in the field of regeneration in setting measures for the success of projects and in developing ways to collect information about the progress and achievements. I grappled with the difficulty of doing this work within the constraints of intensive output monitoring by Government, which frequently sought to measure that which could be counted rather than gather information which measured real change.

Working within the DRC we have sought to measure progress in the life chances of disabled people and our own contribution to bring about change. I've helped set measures of progress in the field of transport which move away from counting the number of accessible vehicles in service to tracking the frequency with which disabled people travel, and the increase in their confidence in using public transport services.

When working at Barton Hill Settlement we negotiated ways to demonstrate to funders the benefits of their particular investment in a multi-purpose centre with funding from a wide range of sources.
