Researching and developing a policy position
I can apply my understanding of the public policy process to help you assess what a change in Government policy might mean for your organisation, and how you might lobby to get the best outcome for your business.
Equally I can look at an issue and consider what might be the options for change in policy or legislation and what might be their outcomes, so you can lobby for the change you want.
At the DRC I devised a strategy for increasing access to transport for disabled people which necessitated the removal of the transport exemption from the Disability Discrimination Act. We lobbied for the change, commented on and secured amendments to Government proposals to legislate, and worked with civil servants to implement the change.
Similar strategies in Wales resulted in the implementation of Access Statements as part of the regime of building regulations and increases in the provision of sign language interpretation for deaf people.
I have also deployed similar strategies at local authority level to secure improvements to the grant-making and monitoring regime for voluntary organisations.
